Karaoke World Championships Australian Trials 2008

The Countdown Is On!

Australia’s recently crowned Karaoke World Champion 2008, Michael Bates, has been pretty cool, calm & collected after winning the Australian title. It hasn’t really sunk in. But as the clock ticks over from September to October and he prepares to board a plane in a few short weeks, Michael will be embarking on the trip of a lifetime as he heads overseas for the first time in his life to compete as Australia’s representative in the international finals of the Karaoke World Championships 2008.

With bags packed, song choices registered, airline tickets and passport in hand, Michael is ready.

The fun begins when he arrives in Helsinki, Finland on Wednesday, 22nd October and makes his way to Lahti to attend the official KWC 2008 press cocktail party. Thursday will play host to the official opening ceremony with performances by current reigning Karaoke World Champions, Australia’s own Julie Walter-Sgro & Malaysia’s Lu Hee Wah at Finland’s premier entertainment centre, Lahti Hall. The party will continue throughout the night with entertainment by some of Finland’s most exciting, young performers.

The competition begins on Friday, 24th October with singers from nearly 30 different countries competing over the first two elimination rounds. The Scandinavian Hunks Show will take to the stage while the judges make their first elimination decision, narrowing the pool down to the top 15 men & 15 women. The final three elimination rounds take place on Saturday finalising with the announcement of the Karaoke World Champions 2008 and entertainment by Finland’s Eurovision finalist, rock band, Teräsbetoni.

As the reigning female champion, Australia’s 2007 KWC Champion, Julie Walter-Sgro, will be heading over to Finland mid October for extra performances in the lead up to the KWC event. She will then join the Aussie Cheer Squad to cheer for Michael before preparing to hand over her crown.

Alan of Big Al’s Karaoke is presenting a comp at the Squatters Arms hotel (Christie Downs SA) on Wednesday nights with the Grand Final on Friday 10^th Sept.  Al says: The way it will work is every Wednesday singers will sing one song in the heat (held between 9.30pm & 10.30pm) & be given points for their performance, the top 16 scorers will then sing off in the grand final……1^st prize is $500.00 from the Squatters Arms & all other finalists will receive a Capital Karaoke voucher.
